Worthless

I think it's pretty fair to say that I am worthless today! It's a gloomy Friday Morning. It has been raining off and on for two days now and I am totally ready for our trip to the mountains this weekend :). Claire is playing in a softball tournament so we are heading to beautiful Ruidoso, NM this evening. The only downfall to the trip is that BM (birth mother) and her entire family will be heading that way as well. We owe the pleasure of the their company to one of their extended family members. You see this family member happens to own a cabin there. So BM can go and not have to pay for lodging. Otherwise it would be like any other time we went out of town, she would make an excuse for not going. Oh wait she even does that for games in town! Please disregard the hint of frustration in that last statement LOL. So wish me luck as we head out this evening.
P.S. To everyone who was affected by 9/11 or otherwise I remember. I pray that the Lord will be with you and comfort you.

Holiday weekend

Well we had a wonderful holiday weekend with my family. We drove two hours to Lubbock, Tx to see my family and spend my niece's fourth birthday with her. Claire went with us, but Ryan decided to stay with his mother. This turned out to be a really good thing for him. When we returned from Lubbock on Sunday Claire phoned her mother to ask if she could stay the night with us. She had said she did not want to go home and I was off work Monday so this was acceptable to me and Jerry. However, her mother questioned her as to why and then told her she needed to come to her grandmother's house and eat. So Claire went to eat and then called us 45 minutes later to pick her up. She got into the car with a sad little look on her face. Jerry refused to pull out of the drive way until she told him what was wrong. She began crying and told us that her mother gave her "the look" as soon as she picked up the phone and called us for a ride. She said she was in trouble with her mom because her mom said that she had spend the entire weekend with us and that she needed to spend more time at home. The resolution was that Claire was to be home early on Monday. However, when Jerry called to see about dropping her off before lunch time the mother said that she was busy studying and Claire did not need to come home. Seriously.....make up your mind lady. That evening when Jerry took Claire home the mother told him that Claire always had a bad attitude when she came home from spending a long weekend with us. How she came to this is beyond me. I am just wondering if she needs medication cause I am thinking ummmm bipolar LOL.

Go figure....

So I decided to take it easy on dinner last night since I had to make a trip to the grocery store after work. I warmed up some chili and decided on Frito pie. Quick, easy, but definitely not nutritious, LOL. The one day I take it easy and throw something super quick on their plates also happens to be the same day the school served up Frito pie. Just my luck! Ryan ate it happily and Claire opted to eat noodles instead. Guess that's my lesson of the day....."don't take the easy way out".

What a week

The week is only half over and it's been packed full of unwelcomed surprises thus far. The first was a scorpion that we found in the living room on Sunday morning. One of the great joys of living in New Mexico....NOT. I am now a bonified scorpion slayer. However, I believe this incident will detour Ryan from sleeping on the couch in the living room in the future. I don't understand why, but the kids love to sleep in the living room. They each have their own beds, but no matter what, always end up asleep in the living room when they stay with us.
The next bit of new pertains to the house that we are in the process of buying. It appraised for $8,000 less than the original offer amount. This was great news for us, but as you can assume, not so great news for the seller. The surprising part was how the seller's son in law behaved. He acted as though we were trying to rip them off or something! They retracted on including the glass top stove as part of the purchase. Flipping unbelievable. Anyone who has gone through the tedious process of buying or selling a home knows that things can get ugly quick. Also you know that the appraisal is what it is. They compare the home being purchased/sold to others in the area, look at the property, its features and square footage and that's about all it takes for them to determine what the home is worth. They don't care how much the stinking thing sells for cause they get paid for their services regardless. Anyhow, Jerry finally calmed me down and the bottom line is, not only do I we get the house for $8,000 less, but I also get a new stove courtesy of Jerry. I will be extremely happy when the process in complete and we are settled in and unpacked. Don't thinks that's asking to much....do you? LOL
As for work....UGH....is the first thing that comes to mind. It's been slower than usual and my boss is freaking out. He says that no one is getting raises and acts like we are going to go broke. How do you like that for job security? The only thing is that I know where our gross receipts are cause H-E-L-L-O Mr. Bossman I post all the payments and run reports and know that we are only grossed $100.00 less for the period of Jan-Aug of 2009, compared to the same period in 2008. Isn't that kinda why you hired me? You know cause I am pretty smart and know my stuff. I'm just saying :)
So it's my mission now to complete the rest of the week without incident. Not going to let anything else get me down or stress me out. Hmmm or so I say now. Perhaps a nice haircut tomorrow will make the world a better place LOL.

What a day!

Well yesterday started off with a telephone call from a screaming patient. I thought after that the day would have to get better. I made a quick trip to Wal-Mart at lunch to pick up a few things for dinner. That went pretty smooth :) Just when I arrived home to unload my purchases my cell phone rang. It was Jerry. I am not coordinated at all and decided against better judgement to take the call, which meant holding the phone with one hand and unloading the car with the other. All was going well until I picked up a box of diet A&W. The box ripped and before I knew it there were cans of soda all over the driveway. One even rolled away hissing and spraying soda along the way. It landed in front of the neighbors. I know I should have retrieved it, but I just couldn't bring myself to make the short trip to do so.
We are in the process of purchasing a home and I received a phone call related to this on the way back to work. It was not really a call I wanted to take, but thought better of ignoring it. It was Al "the informer". I refer to him as the informer because he is a highly intelligent individual who insists on going into much more detail than I or any other typical person require. Bottom line is that he scolded me like I was his child for placing a telephone call to the mortgage company that he felt I should have placed to him instead.
Back to work for me.....the rest of the afternoon was pretty uneventful. Thank goodness it was five o'clock and time to go home and prepare dinner :). Claire was a little quite after the prior nights events. After about twenty minutes she opened up and started talking to us about her day at school. Poor Ryan wasn't feeling to good, but we managed to enjoy our meal while watching the Little League World Series on t.v. It was the perfect ending to a semi-tragic day at work.

Clueless

O.k. so I have been in small town USA aka Hobbs, NM for two years and seven months. I really thought that by now we would be past all the rough patches of adjustment. Boy did I think wrong! (Not using the children's real names for their sake.) When I first moved here Claire was 8 and Ryan was 10. They are now nearly 11 and 13......boy how time quickly time passes.
Yesterday evening Jerry was stuck at work and Ryan had baseball practice so I offered to pick the kids up. I pulled up and saw Claire's smiling face peek out the window. Next thing I know she is headed to my car with her body shaking and tears forming in her pretty brown eyes. I rolled down my window as she walked up and said to her please don't cry. Hold it in and tell me what's wrong. She then explained that her mom had told her she couldn't go with me and that Ryan had to come home right after practice. I asked if they had gotten into trouble and she said no. She was sobbing and explained that her mom started yelling at her because I was there to pick them up. She said that her mom told her that if Jerry couldn't take Ryan to practice then he should have called her and asked her to take him. Please keep in mind that prior to my moving here Jerry said that she never took the kids to any of their practices and rarely showed up to their games. Since I have moved here, her and her boyfriend typical go to the games, but still rarely take them to any of their practices.
So yesterday evening was a quite one at home. I cooked dinner, not for four, but instead only for two and tried to figure out in my mind why I am so despised. I don't try to pretend I am the kids mother. They have one, no matter how much I disagree with her behavior or how she treats the kids they are, and will always be hers. The only thing I have done is try to be a positive role model and love them and their father without condition. So even though I go to bed worried about whether or not Claire is still feeling sad about having to stay home I sleep comfortably knowing that I am guilty of nothing more than trying to be a descent human being who considers everyone involved in this less than desirable situation.
